This Friday the Opening Ceremony will herald in the 2012 Olympics in London. I will probably miss some of the Ceremony, but I will definitely have my DVR set to record it.
One of the great things about the Olympics is that you are exposed to sports you might not otherwise get to see. While I watch as much gymnastics, diving and swimming as I can, I will also watch the track and field events. Those are not something that I would normally watch if they are on TV.
This country is full of crazy sports-loving people who all cling tightly to their team of choice...myself included. (Check out my post for next week!) But the Olympics are an opportunity to cheer as a nation for athletes who aren't making millions of dollars and are on TV every week. And even if they are, if it weren't for the Olympics we would never see them compete. Let's be honest...how many of us tune into swimming events in between Olympic years to see how Michael Phelps is doing? I don't. But you better believe I will be watching him compete during the next several weeks.
The Olympics are fun and will consume much of NBC programming in the coming two weeks or so. But it is fun. And I am super excited! Go Team USA!!
