Winning the lottery would be a dream come true. The $500 million lottery prize keeps growing and is at an all-time record high. The jackpot is the largest in U.S. lottery history. No one has matched all the numbers in Tuesday night’s drawing so the stakes keep getting higher!
Having an extra few thousand (or even million) dollars in my piggy bank would be welcomed with open arms. However, I must face the fact that the chance of actually winning the large sum is slim to none. Today before I left for work I caught a couple minutes of Good Morning America, according to lottery officials, the odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are estimated at about 1 in 176 million. The odds of winning any of the Mega Millions prizes are approximately 1 in 40.
The estimated jackpot is based on national sales up to the time of the drawing. In the last drawing, in which there was no jackpot winner, almost 2.9 million tickets won Mega Millions prizes.
Everyone here at my work pitched in $5.00 at a chance to win the jackpot. Most people I have talked to said they participated just because they would feel horrible if we won and they decided not to play. What would you do if you won the lottery? I know the chances are very slim but it is nice to fantasize about. I could not begin to even think of what I would do with that sort of money. I am sure I would do a lot of traveling and help out my family – oh and a shopping spree would be top of the list. I will worry about the rest of the answer to that question when I hit it big- fingers crossed!
Did you buy your lottery tickets?
